Oxford Rd

Oglądanie wiadomości w tym tygodniu było zasmucającą czynnością. Zamachy w Bostonie i Iraku, trzęsienia ziemi w Iranie i Chinach, wypadek autokaru z dziećmi w Belgii. Odkąd dowiedziałam się o mojej zmarłej kotce, codziennie dochodziły mnie wieści o tragicznych wydarzeniach. Mamy koniec tygodnia i mam nadzieję, że ten nadchodzący będzie lepszy. 

Watching news has been really depressing lately. Terrorist attacks in Boston and Iraq, earthquakes in Iran and China, and then coach accident with children in Belgium. It looks like sad information about my cat was only a prologue of tragic daily news. I truly hope that upcoming week will be better. 

Dziś zdjęcia z spaceru (a raczej dwóch) w mijającym tygodniu. Lubię w Manchesterze to, że wbrew pozorom jest to niewielkie miasto.
Nie mam na myśli faktu, że mieszka to tylko pół miliona ludzi (zawsze myślałam, że jest ich więcej) - chodzi mi o to, że miasto ma dość "zbitą" zabudowę. W 3 godziny można obejść wszystkie ważniejsze części centrum, a do dalszych dzielnic jest też niedaleko. Tym samym nie muszę korzystać ze środków komunikacji miejskiej i za każdym wyjściem widzę sporo nowych miejsc. 

Tonight I am showing some pictures I took on my last stroll (actually two strolls) around the city. I like Manchester because of its size. It's not a big city, despite of fact that 500 000 people live here. I mean it's concentrated - you can see all parts of the city centre within
2-3 hours. And other precincts are just around, thereby I don't need to use buses and can simply walk everywhere. 

Oxford Road to jedna z głównych ulic miasta, biegnąca od centrum aż do Whitworth Park na południu. To tu mieszczą się uniwersytety i uczelnie wyższe, tworząc tym samym największą dzielnicę studencką w Europie. Nie spotkać studenta na Oxford Road to tak jak nie zaznać nigdy deszczu w Anglii ;) Zawsze jak tamtędy przechodzę to żałuję, że studia skończyłam w Polsce. Teraz niestety już za późno na nowy kierunek tutaj - 10 000 funtów za rok wolałabym wydać na podróż po świecie (gdybym miała).

Oxford Road is one of main streets in Manchester, starting from the centre and finishing in Whitworth Park on far south. It's a place of University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Northern College of Music, what makes it Europe's largest urban higher education district. It's impossible to walk this area without meeting any student. Everytime I get there I regret that I finished univerisity in Poland. It was a waste of time. Unfotuantely, now it's too late to start degree here - 10 000 pounds per academic year is just too much. I'd rather spend this money on travelling around the world (wish I had them).

Nie jestem fanką Harry'ego Pottera, nie wiem jak wygląda Hogwart, ale University of Manchester wydaje się mi być równie magiczny ;)

I haven't read Harry Potter so I can't imagine Hogwart, but University of Manchester looks a bit magical too.

Byliśmy na bezpłatnej wystawie poświęconej historii naturalnej - nieduża, ale ciekawa. Parę eksponatów robiło wrażenie jak poniższa czaszka. 

We visited free exhibition about natural history - it wasn't large, but surely worth seeing, like this animal skull below. 

Kocham wiosnę za kwitnące drzewa.

Na Oxford Road znajdziemy wiele kawiarni, restauracji i pubów, ale ja uwielbiam to miejsce za jeden klub - Manchester Academy, gdzie odbywają się najlepsze koncerty w mieście. Do tej pory widziałam tam Converge i Deftones i za każdym razem było wyśmienicie. 

Oxford Road is not only a place of education, but also a lane full of cafes, fast foods, restaurants and pubs. The most important place for me is Manchester Academy, which hosts great bands almost every day. I've already seen Converge and Deftones there and can't wait for next concerts.
