On our first day in Reykjavik we had to see one of its iconic buildings. Hallgrímskirkja is also the tallest building in Iceland (74 m) and you actually see it from 25 km distance. As a person who don't believe and care about any religion I must admit - I was impressed by this church. It's a Lutheran parish and it was extremely different to all churches I've visited so far. Simple, stark, grey walls with no decorations, ornaments, solid wooden pews and narrow, tall windows. I think that it may look like a prison for some people and polish bishops, who are used to treat church as a palace made of gold luxurious marble. But it hit me for the first time in my life that I was feeling good in church. Totally silent place where nothing distracts you. You can simply focus, think, contemplate or pray if you want.
I really appreciated the atmosphere there. I think that generally churches should look like Hallgrímskirkja inside. The only "catchy" thing there was a large pipe organ by the German organ builder Johannes Klais of Bonn. It is the largest instrument in whole country, it has 5275 pipes and we were lucky to hear a gentelman playing on it. Amazing experience, I recommend it to everyone.

In the front we saw the statue of viking explorer Leifur Eriksson (c. 970 – c. 1020). He is considered as the first European, who reached North America. It was a gift from the United States in honor of the 1930 Alþingi Millennial Festival, celebrating the 1000th anniversary of Iceland's parliament at Þingvellir.
Hallgrímskirkja is also the best place to see Reykjavik's panorama. Admission to the top of tower is about 4 pounds, so really cheap.
We had a nice weather, air was clear so we could see even more than capital and enjoyed view of mountains in distance.
