I'm coming back to Iceland today. After first weeks in new workplace I feel much better than without it. It's still not what I am looking for in my life, but it's well paid and people there seem to be so kind so far. I hope to make some friends finally, because I've been craving for some company since I moved to Manchester. Everything is going on the right way now, at least it looks like we both found jobs better than our previous ones, the weather this summer is superb and finally we can stop to worry and think about our nearest future. A few days ago The Naked And Famous released their new song from upcoming album 'In Rolling Waves' and it's been truly the best summer song since many years. I love this positive feelings it gives with every single second.
This song suits very well to today's post. After wonderful day in Berunes we arrived to Vagnsstaðir and I saw there the most beautiful views ever. But starting from our hostel - it was overcrowded compared to places we stayed in before ;) There were some family from Canada, a few guys from Germany too (I think) so we didn't feel lonely there. The place was really nice, kitchen was joined with great patio, where all dining tables were available for guests. So we could eat with amazing view outside, but the only problem was that we had nothing to eat, because we forgot our food from Berunes! I thought that Peter had taken it and he thought the same about me... we were pissed at each other, especially that the nearest store was 50 km away... so we were on diet for two days, and it was painful when you keep in mind how high aprices of food are in Iceland. But shit happens and we have a valuable lesson for next journey (always check boot in your car before you leave!).
We arrived in afternoon and because other people stayed inside, we decided to go to a beach, as this was the only thing we could do there, in the middle of nowhere. A landlady ensured us that we had big chance to see seals and puffins there, but of course - we didn't see any animals ;] Except of one dead swan. But as I said - it was so worth to struggle trough all these swamps for 2 km, because it was the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in my life.
Owners of the hostel run a farm. These little lambs were not used to strangers and run away in the same second they saw us. Such cute tiny creatures!
Their parents were more willing to pose ;)
Just a few steps behind the hostel we started to notice first amazing landscapes.
A 'bridge' on a picture above was the only spot, where we could cross a river and avoid getting soaked in impetuous water. Actually our boots were already soaked, because this yellow grass around was really marshy.
We wandered for over 20 minutes until we found this second crossing. The sun was about to set within minutes so everything looked so magnificent in this light.
Finally we reached the black beach. The last time I went to beach was 11 years ago (sic!), so visiting seashore exactly in Iceland was something special.
Even dead swan added magical touch to this place.
These rocks will stay in my mind and heart as a place where something important in my life happened. It was symbolic, but perfect when you have these surroundings around.
The last glance at this breathtaking place before night embraced Vagnsstaðir.
Jak tam pięknie !
